Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I pay the Bonaire Entry Tax when booking last minute?

The Visitor Entry Tax can be paid anytime within one week prior to your planned travel date, including on the day of travel. To ensure a smooth start to your vacation, we recommend completing the payment online before departure via Bonairegov.com.

If you have not completed the payment before arriving on Bonaire, you will need to pay the tax before proceeding through customs. You can easily complete the payment online using your mobile device upon arrival. As an alternative, self-service kiosks are available at Flamingo Airport.

After payment, you will receive a QR code that must be presented when entering Bonaire. To avoid additional fees, always use the official government website to pay the Visitor Entry Tax.

  • Are rental cars still available if I book last minute?

Outside the high season, rental car availability on Bonaire is generally plentiful. If you are travelling during the high season, school holidays, or other busy periods such as around Dia di Boneiru, we recommend reserving your rental car as soon as possible to ensure availability.

A rental car is practically essential on Bonaire. There is no public transportation on the island and the number of taxis is limited. Having your own vehicle allows you to easily travel between your accommodation, the island’s best snorkeling and diving spots, beaches, nature reserves, and restaurants.

To make your stay as convenient as possible, we partner with 123 Car Rental Bonaire. Thanks to this partnership, Sunwise guests benefit from discounted rates, excellent service, and a smooth rental experience. It’s the same level of quality and personal attention that you have come to expect from Sunwise Bonaire.

By reserving your rental car in advance, you can avoid disappointment and start enjoying all the freedom Bonaire has to offer as soon as you arrive.

  • Where is the best place to stay on Bonaire?

Bonaire has several regions, each offering something unique: the north for luxury and privacy, in and around Kralendijk for a lively atmosphere, and the south for beaches and water sports. In our blog, our Sunwise hosts share 10 insider tips.

  • How long does it take to get to Bonaire?

There are a couple of airlines with direct flights to Bonaire International Airport (BON):

    • United, Houston: 4 hr 43 min
    • United, Newark: 4 hr 47 min
    • American, Miami: 3 hr 25 min
    • Jetblue, New York: 4 hr 44 min
  • Do you offer last-minute discounts?

Yes, at Sunwise Bonaire you receive a 15% discount on almost all accommodations when you book within 21 days before arrival. The discount is already included in the price shown on our website. The price you see is always the total price, including all discounts and fees.

  • Can I also book a last-minute stay for a longer period?

Yes, you can. The discount applies to the first 21 nights after the booking date. Would you like to stay longer? That’s of course possible, at the standard rate for the additional nights. At Sunwise Bonaire, we value transparency. The price you see is always the total price, including all discounts and fees.

  • What are the payment terms for my booking?

For a reservation we require a 25% deposit. The remaining balance must be paid 42 days before arrival. For a last-minute booking, the full amount is always due immediately, as your arrival is within 21 days.

  • Can I still cancel my last-minute booking?

Our standard cancellation policy also applies to last-minute bookings. If you cancel up to 42 days before arrival, you will be charged 25%. After that, unfortunately, the full amount will be charged.

Most travel insurance policies cover these costs in cases of force majeure, often in situations such as health issues or family matters. That’s why we recommend always taking out proper travel and cancellation insurance.
