Sunwise insider tip

When staying at Costa de la Luz, Te Amo Beach and Donkey Beach, just 2.1 kilometers away, are well worth a visit. Te Amo Beach is known for its clear water and beautiful shallow coral gardens close to shore, where you’ll quickly find yourself surrounded by tropical reef fish. Donkey Beach is a long, relaxed stretch of shoreline with shady spots and a laid-back vibe. Don’t forget your snorkel gear, and try to visit in the morning or late afternoon for the most pleasant light and temperatures.

Just so you know

  • No indoor dining table – Most meals are enjoyed outdoors under the porch, totally in Caribbean style.
  • No tumble dryer – With plenty of sun and trade winds, laundry usually dries within a few hours.
  • No A/C in the living room – The bedrooms stay nicely cool; in the living area, ventilation and open doors toward the veranda provide comfort.

The neighborhood

The artificial lagoon between Kralendijk and the airport, connected to the Caribbean Sea via channels. Around the lagoon you’ll find villas, small-scale resorts and hotels (including Ocean Breeze, Plaza Beach Resort and Water Villas Bonaire), often with private boat docks. The water is sheltered and calm – perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding and relaxed waterfront living – with a direct boating connection to the open sea and the dive sites along the west coast.

Getting around

Renting a car on Bonaire is essential if you really want to explore the island, even when staying at Costa de la Luz in the Laguna Marina area. With your own vehicle, you can reach remote snorkel spots, dive sites, and local restaurants beyond the immediate surroundings at your own pace. We strongly recommend renting a car so you can get everywhere. Most roads on Bonaire are paved, but for nature areas like Washington Slagbaai National Park a pickup truck or SUV is recommended. The park roads are unpaved and sometimes rough, and there is no public transport and only a limited number of taxis, especially on busy cruise ship days.

Great stay in Bonaire

A lovely villa rented from Jeroen and Denise of Sunwise. The villa had everything you could want and everything well arranged and on arrival everything well explained by Jeroen. A great stay and certainly worth repeating. Read more

An Amazing Stay

Really can't say enough about how perfect this villa was for our first visit to Bonaire. As a family of 4 with two teens, the design was perfect. AC rooms if needed for sleeping, doors open, breeze blowing when enjoying the patio/pool etc. The simplicity of the design makes for carefree living. There wasn't a thing we wished we had. Elyse was wonderful, meeting us upon arrival and there to say goodbye. We used the dock as a pick up point for a fishing adventure...easy. Our only "surprise" was the street gate closed after 10pm so we just parked our rental outside on the side of the road and our key let us pass into the lane. The smallest of problems to say the least. Would highly recommend Sunwise and this property. We will be back. Read more
