Bonaire is known for its beautiful coral reefs, clear waters and abundant marine life. This makes it an ideal habitat for the osprey, which lives almost exclusively off fish. These birds are adapted to a life above water. With their sharp eyes they search for prey from the air, then with a spectacular diving flight, claws forward, dive into the water to grab an unsuspecting fish. Bonaire’s ospreys are primarily resident birds, meaning they can be found on the island year-round. They are a common sight along the coastlines, where they hunt in the shallow waters or rest in tall trees or on rocky lookouts.
