The wondrous little birds are often also found in the flowery gardens of hotels, resorts and vacation villas. The hummingbird most commonly found on Bonaire is the ruby-topaz hummingbird. These are tiny birds with a body length between 8 and 9 centimeters. Hummingbirds live off the nectar of various flowers and sometimes small insects. This particular bird has a habitat that extends from eastern Panama to eastern Central and South America (including Bonaire). In Papiamentu, a hummingbird is: Dornasol. In fact, in 2016, a series of stamps was released featuring 24 different birds found on Bonaire. The Hummingbird was one of these.
